Programme of Work for 2006 & 2007
Within the framework of ROV’s
Peoples’ University of Lifelong Learning,
we are planning to channel many of our educational
activities and work in partnership with other
organisations interested in alternative educational
approaches. We have also developed our programme
around dates and months in the year which are
significant to the African community, and which
are already marked annually by Africans around
the globe. The following is our proposed calendar
and further information will be added over the
next months:

Day Celebration. Open public workshop to support
the development of a touring exhibition and publication
on unsung heroes and sheroes for 2007.

Cross-Community Forum on Education and Mis-Education
in relation to Enslavement and Abolition
1 August 2006
– Maangamizi Awareness Month Launch and
Emancipation Day Commemoration. ROV-PULL Day School
of films and talks. Organised together with State
and Civil Society Diplomatic Representatives of
Africa, Europe and the Americas, including the
Caribbean.
23 August 2006
– UNESCO’s International Day for the
Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition
Stories of resistance from the Haitian Revolution.
Lessons learnt from overthrowing the system of
Chattel Enslavement and the human stories depicting
the strengths and weaknesses of both the Enslaved
and the Enslavers. Selected readings and narratives.

Cross-Community Forum on the legacy of Enslavement
in Community Empowerment, Integration and Cohesion.
1 May 2007 – African Liberation
Awareness Month Launch and International Workers’
Day Seminar with Trade Unionists and community
activists on how the issues of Historical and
Contemporary Enslavement and Abolition are relevant
to the current day movement in defence of Labour
Rights as an integral part of Human and Peoples’
Rights.
July 2007 -
Youth Internationalist Parliament of Humanity
Event. This internationalist youth platform will
bring together young people from all over the
world to debate topical and priority issues for
the 2007 Commemorative year.
